History of NY:

Manhattan was first Indian / It belonged to the Indians. In 1626, the Dutch bought Manhattan (Manhatta in Indian) for $24, and it became New Amsterdam. Then in 1664, the British came to America and fought for the island, captured it and called it New York.

Neighborhoods:

New York is composed of many different cultures: there are Asians in Chinatown, Italians in Little Italy, Afro-Americans are in Harlem, Spanish people are in Spanish Harlem, Jews are in Brooklyn, Columbians and Greeks are in Queens. In general, there 120 different languages heard in New York.

Architecture:

The major / main architecture of New York is made of skyscrapers / high buildings, mainly in Manhattan, more precisely in Midtown. The financial district (Wall Street, former World Trade Center) is in South Manhattan.

Famous buildings / skyscrapers: The Empire State Building, The Rockefeller Center, or The Chrysler Building.

The streets and avenues in New York follow a strict pattern:

Avenues from the East to the West, and Streets from North to South.
