    Hinduism:

Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world. We don’t know who founded this religion because it is a union of different philosophies. Hindus believe in reincarnation and karma. Their god is divided into three entities: Brahma (the one who creates), Vishnu (the one who preserves) and Shiva (the one who destroys).  Hindus think their soul is eternal, and when they die, their souls lives in another body. They think animals, like humans, have a soul.

    The jewel in the crown:

The jewel is India; the crown represents the British empire. So we can conclude that India had a lot of importance for the British empire. India was a colony and it had resources and they traded for money. Indians rebelled facing the British army because they were ill-treated.

    Towards independence :

Gandhi was the leader of a campaign to gain independence. He was non-violent. Yet, it was not a peaceful independence. India finally became independent in 1947. Their struggle had begun in 1922.

    The world’s largest democracy :

India had been led by a woman, which is unusual. It is a huge country: about 1.2 billion people live there. Their main problem is the division in society: there are more men than women, and there are more poor people than rich people.

    Hinduism:

Hinduism has existed for thousands of years. It is the oldest religion in the world. We don’t know who founded it but it is a union of different philosophies and they have one God divided into three figures / entities: Brahma (the one who creates), Vishnu (the one who preserves) and Shiva (the one who destroys).

They mostly believe in karma and reincarnation: they think that when you die, your soul goes on to live in another body. Animals, like humans, have a soul for them.

    The jewel in the crown:

The jewel is India; the crown is the British Empire. So we can conclude that India is important for the British Empire because India has a lot of wealth / resources. The British didn’t really respect the Indians, and the Indian rebelled and organized a mutiny.

    Towards independence :

In 1922, Ghandi organized a campaign against the British, he was non-violent. But there were tensions, it was not peaceful, and finally after 25 years, in 1947, India became officially independent.

    The world’s largest democracy :

It is a huge country with about 1.2 billion people. They have two main problems: poverty (there are few rich people and a lot of poor people), gender (There are more men than women). And yet, it is a democracy. Indira Gandhi, a woman, has been their prime minister.
