    Steve Biko’s full name was Bantu Stephen Biko. He was born on December 18th 1946, in Tarkastad, Eastern Cape, South Africa. He died on September 12th 1977, at the age of 30, in Pretoria, South Africa. He died in prison.  He became a member of the South African Students’ Organization in 1968, and he also became a member of the Black People’s Convention in 1972. He was considered as the “father” of the Black Consciousness Movement, and he is now regarded as anti-apartheid movement’s first icon. Nelson Mandela said about him that he was the “spark that lit a veld fire across South Africa”.
