Here, she is telling us about her relationship with Scotland. First, she explains that Scotland is very important to her. She emphasizes that she had a constructive and positive exchange / conversation with Nicola Sturgeon. She promises that her country will be united before she triggers article 50. But in fact, this speech is only a political tactic… Scotland is indeed important because if Scotland asks again to be independent, it will endanger the whole kingdom… so Theresa May pretends Scotland is important: this is only a political strategy because she needs Scotland to remain in the UK, and to leave together the EU.

David Cameron’s declaration

This audio document is an extract from the press conference David Cameron gave just after the result of the referendum on Brexit. What he means here is that… The hidden message is that… The underlying message is that… he will resign / leave / quit his job as PM (Prime Minister).

He compares himself to the captain of a boat who is piloting the country (the ship / the boat) to its next destination (negotiations with the EU).

He announces that he won’t do those negotiations but that the new Prime Minister will do it. He has no precise timetable in mind but he gives us a clue, a landmark: the conservative conference in October.

He appears to be courageous / bold as he announces his resignation but he also states that he will lead the country until the next PM is elected, and triggers article 50.
