    We want as many children back in school as possible which is why this week we announced more flexibility for primary schools so that they can have the opportunity to bring back more of their pupils, if they’re able to do so, in line with the protective measures that we’ve already set out. School is vital for every one of our children, that is why we will bring all children in all year groups back to school in September. While many children have already returned to school, I do understand there is anxiety still among parents. I want to assure you that the well-being of your children is the absolute top priority for every single one of us. We’ve put robust protective measures in place, including a hierarchy of controls and protective bubbles. And we’ll stress that it is in every child’s best interest to return to school if they’re eligible to and able to. This measured return is part of our roadmap, is part of how we will recover and rebuild after this virus.

    The cartoonist wants to denounce the irony of the situation : a boy of about 6 or 7 should able to read a sign on a gate. Yet, in this situation, the boy doesn’t seem to be able to read it. The adult is (fakely) surprised. The problem lies in the fact that schools have been closed for a long time and pupils lost their efficiency, the level they had reached. So of course, this boy, as all the others, cannot read, this is not surprising. This is an ironical cartoon.

    This document is a press cartoon which illustrates the impact of coronavirus on schools and children. It was drawn by an English cartoonist named BOB, and it was published in The Telegraph on June 25th (twenty-fifth) 2020 (twenty-twenty / two thousand and twenty)

    A + consonant sound => a boy, a university, a school, a UFO

    AN + vowel sound => an English teacher, an adult, an ideal place, an unequal law

    The scene which is depicted takes place in front of a school, outside the gate which is closed / locked. The scene takes place in the morning, it is in fact five to nine, just before official school time.

    We can see a kid and an adult who is wearing a face mask. The kid is a boy and he is staring at the adult. The kid is wearing a uniform and he is carrying a schoolbag on his back.

    The adult seems on holiday because of the way he is dressed : he is wearing yellow shorts, black flip-flops and a pink short-sleeve shirt.
