Let’s debate and find arguments about a possible statement recognizing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples!

How to express your opinion or contradict your adversary in a debate

Arguments in favour of the recognition…

    Arguments against the recognition…

    I think…

    In my opinion…

    In my point of view…

    For me…

    I believe…

    Yes, but…

    Yet, …

    I’m not okay with you…

    I don’t agree with you / I disagree with you…

Sorry but you’re wrong / you get it wrong…

I have to contradict you here!

    …since…

    -         We have to recognize the Aborigines because they are the First Peoples and their knowledge could help us.

    -         Aborigines were too much exploited and they arrived before the British colonies.

    -         It has to be inside the Constitution because it’s a first step between the British and the Aborigines.

    -         It’s a way to apologize for the bad treatment that white people imposed on Aborigines.

    -         They should integrate the statement inside the constitution because Aborigines are close to the land and they could develop Autralia’s ecology.

    -         The British were the First to discover the land of Australia.

    -         In case of a recognition, it would only be symbolic.

    -         Instead of speaking, we should make an effort to act now.

    -         It’s just an administrative paper so it’s a waste of time.

    -         It’s pure hypocrisy because we haven’t done anything the past and Aborigines don’t ask for anything.

    What does the statement say?

We the descendants of British convicts, do recognize the Aborigines in our Constitution as the First People and as such consider them as true Australians and equal to us.
