    Alone in Alaska

    Hitchhiker = a person who walks on the side of the road hoping someone will stop and take him in his car.

    To shiver = to tremble because of the cold

    Cheerfully = happily

    Dawn = morning

    This is the story of Alex: he is 24, he is from South Dakota and he wants to go to Denali National Park to walk in the bush and live into the wild. In Alaska, near Fairbanks, the weather is cold and gray and it’s snowing. After Alex meets Jim Gallien, Jim offers help to Alex but he refuses it because Alex wants to live into the wild with nothing. He doesn’t need anything.

    Alex accepts the sandwiches Gallien’s wife offers him…

    At the end of the passage, Gallien takes a picture of Alex, it’s a strange idea from Alex. To finish, Alex walks away in the snow…

    My greatest challenge

    This is Lindsey, she is 25 and she is a student in sociology. She entered / took part in an experience / a program(me) called Togetherness: the goal / the aim was to meet as many people as you can in 6 months. So she walked from Connecticut to Nebraska which represents 1500 miles. She crossed / walked across 6 states (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri). She left Connecticut in February and reached Nebraska in August. This experience was exhausting / tiring but it was unforgettable. Lindsey sometimes felt scared but now she is very proud of herself even if it took her a lot of energy.
