This is John Anderson, he is a lifeguard and a California State Park peace officer. He works in a place called Silver Strand State Beach which hosts the California surf Livesaving championships.

This is James Bray, he is a lifeguard and a State Park peace officer. He is also a lifesaver. In the interview, he draws a parallel between competition and real life / he compares competition to real life.

This is Sara kennedy, she is also a lifeguard and a California State Park peace officer. She works at Crystal Cove State Park. She rescues people and saves lives in different surf conditions. She loves working in California State Parks and she is so proud of it. For her, this is the best job that anyone could ever have because she understands that around her people enjoy the parks and the place.

Person 1: My name’s John Anderson, I’m a California State Park peace officer, lifeguard, and we’re here at Silver Strand State Beach, hosting the California Surf Lifesaving Championships.

Person 2: James Bray, State Park peace officer lifeguard, Ventura. The competition side of it, it’s really unique to the lifeguarding aspect of State Parks, and everything that we do here benefits our roles as lifesavers within the State Park system as lifeguards. So the better we do here, the better we can do for serving the public back on the beach while we’re on duty as lifeguards. There’s nothing better than what we get to do on a daily basis

Person 3: I’m Sara Kennedy, I’m a State Park peace officer lifeguard at Crystal Cove State Park. You know, a lot of times when you’re lifeguarding, you’re racing out to a rescue, and this kind of gets us in different surf conditions, and gets us practicing and going full speed so that when you’re going out to a rescue you know how to go through surf in different conditions, and get out there and save a life. I love working for California State Parks, I really believe that California has some great open  recreation areas, and I’m so proud to be able to protect them with the people enjoying the parks, and I just feel like it’s the best job that anyone could ever have.

The better we do here, the better we can do to save people.
